MANILA – House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo brushed off the “political dynasty” tag as he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator on Sunday (06 Oct 2024) under the ruling Lakas – Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
If both he and his brother Ben Tulfo win in the 2025 senatorial race, they will join their other brother, Raffy Tulfo, in the upper chamber of Congress.
“As long as there is no law, we let the people decide. If a law is passed, then we stop. The issue of political dynasties has been around for a long time, and I believe it won’t stop until legislation is in place,” Erwin stated.
A proposed anti-political dynasty law has languished in Congress since 2001, a body made up of many members from prominent political families, who seem reluctant to pass such a bill.
On Friday, October 4, 2024, Erwin Tulfo officially joined Lakas-CMD, with House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez administering his oath as the party’s 112th member in the House of Representatives.
Romualdez, leader of the 300-strong chamber and Lakas-CMD president, praised Tulfo as a valuable asset, confident in the significant contributions he will make to both the party and the nation.
“Rep. Erwin Tulfo is a tremendous asset, embodying not only seasoned public service but also courage and integrity,” Romualdez said.
