MANILA – On Tuesday (14 Jan 2025), the House of Representatives passed a resolution recommending the induction of Olympic double-gold medalist Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame, a prestigious honor managed by the Philippine Sports Commission.
House Resolution 2131 was approved during the plenary session, urging the inclusion of Yulo in the Hall of Fame in accordance with Republic Act 8757, which establishes the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame. Under this law, athletes must have earned at least a bronze medal in an Olympic event to be eligible.
The Hall of Fame honors athletes who serve as role models and inspire future generations of Filipino athletes to achieve excellence in their respective sports.
At just 24 years old, Yulo made history at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics by winning two gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and vault events, solidifying his status as one of the country’s greatest gymnasts.
In recognition of his extraordinary achievements, the House also awarded Yulo the Congressional Medal of Excellence.
The resolution highlights Yulo’s decorated career, which includes six World Championship medals (two gold, two silver, and two bronze), 10 Asian Championship titles, and nine gold medals from the Southeast Asian Games in various gymnastics disciplines.
Throughout his career, Yulo has accumulated 128 gold medals, 43 of which were won in international competitions and 85 in local events.
“Carlos Edriel P. Yulo’s historic victory earned the Philippines respect on the global stage and served as an inspiration for Filipino athletes to pursue greatness, making him truly deserving of this honor,” the resolution affirmed.
