MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Strike Force has been busy clearing Commonwealth Avenue and Batasan Road in Quezon City in preparation for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the end of the month.

The team removed various obstructions from the sidewalks along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and towed vehicles that were illegally parked on the service road of Batasan Road.

According to the MMDA, the service road is often misused as a parking area, even though it’s not designated for that purpose.

“This area is a major thoroughfare connecting Quezon City to San Mateo, Rizal. It’s crucial to keep the roads and sidewalks free from obstructions. The vehicles parked here aren’t from the local area; it’s become a practice to leave cars on the service road overnight,” said Gabriel Go, the OIC head of the MMDA Strike Force.

Earlier in the day, the MMDA also inspected obstructions on alternative routes for motorists, including Biak na Bato, Sgt. Rivera, and Banawe in Quezon City.

The operation resulted in more than 50 vehicles being ticketed, and over 25 of them were towed because their drivers were absent.
