MANILA – Malacañang has suspended classes at all levels and work in government offices in Regions III, IV-A, and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday, July 25, due to continuous heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon “Carina.”
The suspension aims to facilitate the rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of the government and the private sector, according to Malacañang.
“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the statement read.
The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads, it added.
NCR under a state of calamity
On Wednesday (24 July 2024), the Metro Manila Council (MMC) approved a resolution declaring NCR under a state of calamity.
As a result of Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon, numerous areas in Metro Manila have been submerged in water.
Local government units had earlier suspended classes at all levels.
