MANILA — The defending champions, University of Perpetual Help Altas, were pushed to their limits before clinching a 5-set victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates in the NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the San Beda University gym in Manila.

The Altas secured the win with a final score of 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 21-25, and 15-9.

Perpetual Help seemed in control in the opening two sets, dominating with sharp play. However, the Pirates, known for their resilience, bounced back in the next two sets to level the match at 2-2, setting up a tense fifth set.

In the deciding set, the Altas found their rhythm once again, maintaining their composure to seal the victory and extend their perfect start to the season, with three wins in as many matches.

Jeff Marapoc was the standout performer for Perpetual Help, contributing a remarkable 24 points alongside 12 excellent receptions. Kobe Brian Tabuga also played a key role, adding 22 points. Rookie Hezron Manoloto chipped in with 12 points, including two crucial blocks, while Klint Mateo provided 18 excellent sets, facilitating his team’s offense.

Lyceum fought valiantly, with Frank Edang leading the charge, scoring 18 points. Icon Aquino supported with 17 points, while John Cielo and Carlo Edang added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The victory boosts Perpetual Help’s confidence as they look to defend their title this season.
