MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries.
Marcos expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the partnership with Singapore, noting the extensive cooperation already in place between the two nations.
“I look forward to continuing the relationship. I’m confident… although there’s already a great deal that we’re doing in many areas,” Marcos told Wong during their bilateral meeting on Friday, May 31, 2024.
“We have really laid down the foundation for the last five years, establishing a formal and official relationship. As with other ASEAN members and Asian countries in general, it’s easy for us to work together to enhance our partnership,” the President added.
Wong highlighted the strong cooperation and positive momentum in the relationship between the two countries.
The Philippines and Singapore established diplomatic relations on May 16, 1969.
In 2019, the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary, or Golden Jubilee, of their diplomatic ties.
