MANILA — Dubbed as a super typhoon even if it did not make a landfall, Carina’s death toll has reached 34, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday (26 July 2024).

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the figure is based on initial data from police field units as of 10 a.m. Friday.

She clarified that the death toll was still subject for validation by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, which releases the official number of fatalities.

It can be noted that Carina-enhanced habagat dumped more rain than Ondoy 15 years ago.

Monsoon rains worsened by the typhoon triggered severe flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon this week.
