MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived in Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday (28 May 2024) for a two-day state visit.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced that the airplane carrying President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and the official delegation landed in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan at 10:01 a.m.
Marcos was warmly welcomed by Bruneian officials. During the visit, he is scheduled to have a general audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Yang Di-Pertuan.
Additionally, President Marcos will meet with the Filipino community in Brunei at the BRIDEX International Convention Center. Brunei is home to approximately 20,000 Filipinos.
In his departure speech on Tuesday morning, President Marcos highlighted his intention to discuss defense and regional security with Sultan Bolkiah during their bilateral meeting. He also mentioned plans to explore mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations. Furthermore, an agreement on tourism cooperation between the two countries is expected to be signed.
This visit marks 40 years of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam.
