MANILA – Luzon and much of Mindanao are set to experience rain on Friday (24 jan 2025), driven by the northeast monsoon and easterlies, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Benison Estareja of PAGASA explained that the easterlies are causing cloud clusters off the east of Mindanao, leading to widespread rain across the island.
Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, as scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect regions like Caraga, Davao, Soccsksargen, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
Estareja also urged caution, warning of potential floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
The northeast monsoon will bring rains over Batanes and isolated light showers across the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, Central Luzon, and Cagayan Valley. The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Overall, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions will persist across the archipelago. No low-pressure areas are currently being monitored for tropical cyclone formation.
