MANILA – The easterlies will continue to bring warm weather with the possibility of isolated rains or thunderstorms in most parts of the Philippines, according to the weather bureau on Saturday (18 May 2024).
However, Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line affecting extreme Northern Luzon, reported the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The entire archipelago is expected to have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
Dangerous Heat Index Levels
PAGASA has issued a warning about dangerous heat index levels in 38 areas, with the highest reaching 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aparri, Cagayan; Dumangas, Iloilo; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Areas expected to experience a dangerous heat index ranging from 42°C to 44°C include:
Metro Manila: NAIA Pasay City – 43°C
Ilocos Region: Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – 44°C; Bacnotan, La Union – 43°C
Cagayan Valley: Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42°C; ISU Echague, Isabela – 42°C
Central Luzon: Iba, Zambales – 43°C; CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 43°C
Calabarzon: Sangley Point, Cavite – 42°C; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas – 43°C
Mimaropa: San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 44°C; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 43°C
Bicol Region: Daet, Camarines Norte – 42°C; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate – 42°C
Western Visayas: Roxas City, Capiz – 44°C; Iloilo City, Iloilo – 44°C
Eastern Visayas: Catarman, Northern Samar – 44°C; Catbalogan, Samar – 42°C
Zamboanga Peninsula: Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte – 44°C
Northern Mindanao: CMU Agromet, Musuan, Bukidnon – 42°C
Davao Region: Davao City, Davao del Sur – 42°C
Caraga: Butuan City, Agusan del Norte – 44°C
Public Advisory
PAGASA advises the public to minimize outdoor activities, particularly at midday, and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. For those who need to be outside, it is recommended to use umbrellas or wear hats and sleeved clothing for protection against the heat.
