MANILA – Isolated rain showers are forecast to persist across most parts of the Philippines, according to the weather bureau’s advisory issued on Monday (20 Jan 2025).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the northeast monsoon (amihan) will bring rainfall to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, brought about by the easterlies, are expected in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Oriental.

These regions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash floods or landslides.

The northeast monsoon will also bring light, isolated rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Elsewhere in the country, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to the easterlies.

PAGASA also warned of moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas in Northern Luzon, while other areas will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters.

At present, no low-pressure area is being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, PAGASA confirmed.
