MANILA – On Wednesday (January 29), the Philippines is being affected by three weather systems: the northeast monsoon (or “amihan”), the easterlies, and the shear line, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA reported that the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Dinagat Islands.
The agency also warned of moderate to heavy rainfall (ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters) expected in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Dinagat Islands over the next 24 hours.
PAGASA cautioned residents in these areas about the possibility of localized flooding, particularly in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent regions. Additionally, landslides are considered highly probable in areas vulnerable to such occurrences.
Meanwhile, Palawan and the rest of the Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the shear line.
The easterlies will bring cloudy skies and scattered rains with thunderstorms to the rest of Mindanao.
As for the northeast monsoon, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora will continue to see cold weather with cloudy skies and rains. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Strong to gale-force northeast winds will cause rough to very rough coastal waters over Northern Luzon and the eastern parts of Central Luzon.
The temperature will range from 20.4°C to 29.8°C across the country.
