MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially declared April 1, 2025 (Tuesday) a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

The declaration, made through Proclamation 839, follows the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). Marcos emphasized that the holiday aims to highlight the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr and foster unity among Filipinos.

Eid’l Fitr, one of the most important Islamic celebrations, is observed three days after the month-long fasting of Ramadan. The date is determined based on the lunar Islamic calendar, specifically through the sighting of the crescent moon in the month of Shawwal.

Muslims make up around 6 percent of the Philippine population. The observance of Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday was established under Republic Act 9177, recognizing the country’s Islamic heritage.

Another key Islamic celebration, Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, is commemorated later in the Islamic calendar, honoring the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

The government encourages all Filipinos to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating Eid’l Fitr in the spirit of peace and solidarity.
