MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Friday (03 Jan 2025) that three weather systems—the shear line, easterlies, and northeast monsoon—are expected to bring rains to various parts of Luzon.

Shear Line

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA reported that the shear line will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora.

Northeast Monsoon

Batanes will experience cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan”.

Easterlies

Meanwhile, Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms as a result of the easterlies.

“We expect the amihan to strengthen and impact a significant portion of Northern Luzon over the next two days,” said Aldczar Aurelio of PAGASA. Aurelio also advised the public to remain vigilant against potential flooding or landslides.

There is currently no low-pressure area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, according to PAGASA.

Localized Thunderstorms

Localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Sea Conditions

Moderate to rough seas are expected over Northern Luzon due to moderate strong northeast winds, while elsewhere, light to moderate winds will result in slight to moderate seas.

The day’s temperature will range from 24.3°C to 30.8°C.
