MANILA – The shearline, easterlies, and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring scattered rains across parts of the country, according to the weather bureau on Sunday (16 Feb 2025).

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the shearline will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to easterlies, or winds coming from the Pacific.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will cause similar weather conditions in the Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, and Sarangani.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the easterlies.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in areas experiencing moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

Obet Badrina of PAGASA noted that the western side of Luzon will have warm weather as the northeast monsoon or “amihan” slightly weakens on Sunday. However, the monsoon is expected to strengthen again in the coming days, bringing colder temperatures starting Monday.

Northern Luzon will have moderate winds from the southeast to northeast, with moderate sea conditions. The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters.

Temperatures will range from 23.4°C to 30.6°C.
