MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast that three (3) weather systems will continue to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across the country on Sunday, December 29.

These systems include the shear line, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and the northeast monsoon (amihan).

According to PAGASA’s early morning bulletin, the shear line will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in several areas, including Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and the Bicol provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

This weather disturbance will also affect other parts of the region, creating a mix of rain showers and occasional thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will influence the Visayas, the rest of Mimaropa, as well as the remaining Bicol provinces. This will result in cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms. In addition, parts of Zamboanga del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur will experience similar conditions due to the ITCZ’s activity.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also brought on by the ITCZ.

The northeast monsoon (amihan) continues to affect northern parts of the country, particularly Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), where cloudy skies with rains are expected. Elsewhere in Luzon, the weather will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains due to the amihan’s influence.

PAGASA has issued a warning for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall, especially in areas like Cagayan and Isabela, which are expected to receive heavy to intense rainfall throughout the day.

In terms of maritime conditions, rough to very rough seas are expected along the northern coast of Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon due to strong to gale-force winds coming from the northeast.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon and the eastern parts of the Visayas will experience moderate to strong winds, resulting in moderate to rough seas.

Temperatures across the country are expected to range from 24.8°C to 29.7°C.

As always, the public is advised to stay alert for weather updates and take necessary precautions, especially those living in areas prone to flooding or landslides.
