MANILA — Authorities have detained around 400 illegal foreign workers during a raid on an alleged scam hub in Parañaque City, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The operation, conducted on January 8, 2025, targeted a company in Barangay Tambo that was suspected of operating similar to a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO), with foreign nationals allegedly involved in online scams aimed at victims abroad.

The Bureau’s Intelligence Division, Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), and Anti-Terrorist Group (ATG) had been monitoring the activities of these individuals for some time. BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. confirmed that the operation uncovered violations of immigration laws that posed risks to public safety.

“These operations were linked to illicit activities, which included online scams,” said Manahan. The detained individuals are currently undergoing booking procedures and will remain in custody while awaiting deportation.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that the raid was part of the bureau’s intensified efforts to combat illegal activities and ensure compliance with immigration laws. “Foreign nationals engaging in illegal activities will be deported as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,” he stated.

The BI is working with other government agencies to expedite the deportation process and hold violators accountable.
