MANILA – The weather bureau announced Thursday that certain regions in the Philippines will encounter rainfall due to the convergence of easterlies and the northeast monsoon, commonly known as “amihan.”
Eastern Visayas will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by the easterlies, potentially leading to moderate to heavy rainfall that may trigger flash floods or landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In contrast, “amihan” will induce isolated light rains across the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.
For the rest of the country, isolated rain showers resulting from the easterlies and localized thunderstorms are expected.
Moreover, the eastern parts of the Philippines are forecasted to encounter moderate to strong winds along with moderate to rough coastal waters. Elsewhere, winds are anticipated to be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
PAGASA forecaster Benison Estareja stated that no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is foreseen until the weekend.
