MANILA — Justice Secretary Boying Remulla commended on Monday (07 Oct 2024) the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for revoking the passport of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo.
The DFA stated that the cancellation was in accordance with Republic Act No. 11983, also known as the “New Philippine Passport Act.”
“DFA’s decisive call to revoke the passport of Guo undoubtedly opened the doors to justice. This marks the beginning of a relentless pursuit to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law,” Remulla emphasized.
“Rest assured, your efforts won’t be in vain. We will prosecute this case to the fullest until justice is served,” he added in his message to the DFA.
This follows a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) report confirming that Alice Guo’s biometrics perfectly matched those of a certain Guo Hua Ping.
The DFA explained that a passport may be canceled if acquired through fraud, tampered with, or issued erroneously, as provided by the law. They emphasized that this particular case falls under these provisions.
Despite the revocation, Guo’s camp announced that the former mayor still intends to file her Certificate of Candidacy for mayor in Tarlac.
