MANILA — Olympic boxer Eumir Marcial has on Saturday (11 Jan 2025) denied allegations of abuse and infidelity made by his wife, Princess Marcial, following a public dispute.
In an interview with local media in Zamboanga City, Eumir rejected the claims and said their relationship had been troubled for some time now.
Princess accused Eumir of abusing her and having an affair with another woman. Speaking to 89.9 Brigada Zamboanga, Eumir responded, claiming that any injuries Princess sustained were accidental.
“Kung sinasaktan ko siya, do you think na ganun lang ‘yung mangyayari sa kanya?” he said, suggesting that the marks were due to him defending himself.
The athlete explained that their marriage had been fraught with arguments and tensions, accusing Princess of being the aggressor. “Hindi na maayos ‘yung relasyon [namin],” he added, stating that even her friends and family were aware of their issues.
The Alleged Affair
The affair allegations surfaced after Princess allegedly found a wallet belonging to another woman in Eumir’s car. Eumir clarified that the woman was a friend whom he had met to return her wallet.
He emphasized that the situation was misinterpreted, stating that the woman had a companion and nothing inappropriate occurred. “Walang nangyayari na pagtataksil,” he stressed.
Princess, however, has a different account. She claimed she discovered the wallet in October 2024 and later confronted Eumir and his alleged mistress at an Airbnb in Pasay.
According to Princess, both Eumir and his mistress were briefly detained by the police after the incident. “I caught [him] in the act on October 24,” she said.
Financial Allegations and Separation
Eumir also addressed accusations that he drained their savings to build a house for his alleged mistress. He denied these claims, asserting that Princess controlled their joint account and all property titles. “At ‘yung sinasabi niyang pinapatayuan ko ng bahay ‘yung babae, hindi ‘yun totoo,” he said.
Eumir further clarified that he and Princess had already separated before the incident with the alleged affair. He insisted that their separation was amicable and questioned why Princess was bringing their personal issues to the media. “Bakit niya gustong dalhin pa dito sa media?” he asked.
Princess Marcial’s Counterclaims
Princess responded by detailing her own version of events. In a social media post, she claimed that after multiple chances to repair their marriage, she had to sever ties with Eumir due to his continued infidelity and emotional manipulation. She also expressed that she had endured emotional, physical, and psychological torment throughout their relationship.
“I had to go on separate ways with Eumir after all the trauma,” she stated, emphasizing that she was taking legal action against him for abuse and infidelity. Princess added that her goal was to help other women facing similar struggles.
The Couple’s Marriage and Olympic Journey
Eumir and Princess married in 2021 after being together for nine years. The couple’s relationship became a topic of public interest following the allegations. Eumir, who competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, failed to win gold after losing to Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan in the men’s 80kg division.
As legal proceedings continue, both parties are presenting their sides of the story, leaving the public to await further developments in this ongoing dispute.
