MANILA — Pinay tennis star Alex Eala has soared to No. 75 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, a massive jump from No. 140, following her sensational semifinal finish at the 2025 Miami Open.
Eala, a wild card entry, stunned three Grand Slam champions en route to the Final Four before bowing out in a hard-fought three-set battle against World No. 4 Jessica Pegula.
“This tournament has opened doors to new opportunities, but with them come new challenges. The real work starts now,” Eala shared on Instagram.
Her breakthrough run secured her a spot in all four Grand Slam main draws this season. The 19-year-old upset World No. 25 and 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko (7-6(2), 7-5) before shocking World No. 5 Madison Keys (6-4, 6-2) in the round of 16. She advanced to the quarterfinals after Spain’s Paula Badosa withdrew due to a back injury.
Eala’s rapid rise signals her growing presence on the world stage, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
