MANILA – Michael Capati has officially resumed his role as general manager of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), taking his oath before Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday (31 Mar 2025) following his appointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos on March 26.

Capati, who previously served as MRT-3 GM in 2022, has been with the transit system since 2017 as director for operations. He played a key role in transitioning MRT-3’s maintenance to government control in 2017 and later facilitated the return of its original maintenance provider, Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, in 2019.

His leadership oversaw the completion of MRT-3’s rehabilitation in December 2021, restoring peak performance speeds to 60 km/h. Notably, he led the historic deployment of four-car trains on March 28, 2022, and the simultaneous operation of multiple train configurations the following day.

Capati replaces Oscar Bongon, who was dismissed on March 18 over delays in addressing a malfunctioning escalator. Dizon warned transportation officials against sluggish responses to commuter concerns.

With Capati back at the helm, commuters can expect a renewed push for efficiency and improved service at MRT-3.
