MANILA — Palace Press Office Undersecretary Claire Castro clarified that there is no rift between Senator Imee Marcos and her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

This came in response to questions about the relationship between the senator and the president.

“We cannot say that there is a rift; let’s just wait to hear what the President has to say,” Castro remarked. “Given the President’s demeanor, he is not one to be easily offended.”

Castro noted that, based on Imee’s statements, it “seems” there may be some tension.

“From the statements of Senator Imee Marcos, it seems like there is [a rift],” Castro said.

Imee recently announced that she had left the administration’s senatorial slate, Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas.

“Clearly, there were actions taken by the administration that run counter to my ideals and principles. Thus, I cannot stand on the same campaign platform as the rest of the Alyansa. As I have stated from the outset of the election period, I will continue to maintain my independence,” the senator said in a statement.

“Above all political advantage, the sovereignty of the country and the true justice for every Filipino must remain paramount,” Imee added.
