MANILA — Senator Lito Lapid urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to support the mango industry which has a huge impact in the economy.
“Kailangan po natin ng todong suporta ng pamahalaan sa agrikultura para makinabang ang buong bansa at hindi po tayo magugutom,” Lapid said.
Lapid also promised financial assistance to farmers and fishermen in Guimaras island and Iloilo affected by the El Niño phenomenon.
The lawmaker made the statement after attending the Manggahan Festival celebration ceremony in the island of Guimaras on Tuesday.
He was joined by his son Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) COO Mark Lapid.
Lapid, who is also a mango farmer, recognized the Guimaras mango as one of the sweetest and best in the world.
