MANILA — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) condemned the ambush-slay of South Upi, Maguindanao del Sur Vice Mayor Roldan Benito and one of his companions.
“We strongly condemn the ambush-slay of South Upi, Maguindanao Del Sur Vice Mayor Roldan M. Benito and one of his companions, Weng Marcos, on Friday afternoon in Sitio Linao, Barangay Pandan. We will do our utmost to seek justice for the victims,” DILG said in a statement on Saturday (03 August 2024).
According to reports, he was with his family members, and the security detail was in a pick-up truck in Sitio Linao, Barangay Pandan when the shooting happened.
Benito’s wife, a barangay chairperson, and two of their kids were injured.
DILG said it has already ordered the Philippine National Police to work with the military to pursue the suspects.
“They will leave no stone unturned until they have arrested them and unmasked the masterminds.”
“We also appeal to the public to get in touch with the authorities if they have any information that can help in the quick resolution of this case,” DILG said.
DILG also extended its sympathies and prayers to the family for the families of the victims.
