MANILA — As the joyous Christmas season rapidly approaches, the National Museum of the Philippines Complex in Manila comes alive with the enchanting glow of “Parul Sampernandu” lanterns from Pampanga, most especially magnificent to watch at night.
This happened on Sunday, November 19, 2023, when the complex transformed into a festive wonderland, celebrating the rich tradition of these intricately crafted lanterns.
Originating in San Fernando, Pampanga, the “Parul Sampernandu” holds a special place in the hearts of locals, gaining recognition for its exquisite handmade lanterns both nationally and internationally.
Over the years, the city’s skilled artisans have elevated the art of lantern-making, culminating in the renowned Annual Giant Lantern Festival, solidifying San Fernando’s status as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines.
Here, Maharlika Nu Media chief of photogs Benjie Cuaresma captured the magic as he skillfully immortalized the National Museum adorned with the radiant glow of the “Parul Sampernandu,” a true testament to the spirit of Christmas emanating from the heart of Pampanga.
