MANILA — Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile stated that the current administration should not be held responsible for the legal issues former President Rodrigo Duterte is facing.

An arrest warrant for Duterte, issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), was carried out by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and local authorities on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) for alleged crimes against humanity.

“The current legal problems of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte are not due to Philippine laws. His legal issues stem from laws enforced by the International Criminal Court (ICC),” Enrile said.

“It is incorrect to blame the Philippine government for the current legal situation of ex-PRRD,” he added.

Earlier, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) issued a statement, assuring that Duterte is in good health despite the arrest warrant.

“Ang dating Pangulo at ang kanyang grupo ay nasa mabuting kalusugan at sinuri ng mga doktor ng gobyerno. Sinigurado na siya ay nasa maayos na kalagayan,” the statement read.
