MANILA – Fair weather with isolated rain showers is expected to continue across the Philippines on Thursday (23 May 2024), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
“Since the low-pressure area (LPA) is still far from the country, fair weather will persist,” said Aldczar Aurelio of PAGASA.
The cloud cluster that developed into an LPA on Wednesday was last tracked 1,080 km east of southeastern Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Aurelio mentioned that the LPA is likely to enter PAR on Thursday and head towards Eastern Visayas and the eastern section of Luzon. “It could develop into a tropical cyclone and will be named Aghon,” he added.
Meanwhile, 43 areas are forecast to experience dangerous heat indices.
PAGASA expects the heat index, which combines air temperature and relative humidity to reflect how hot it feels, to peak at 47°C in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
A heat index of 46°C is likely in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aparri, Cagayan; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
