MANILA – Several Filipino nationals were arrested in Qatar on March 28, 2025, for allegedly participating in unauthorized political demonstrations, the Philippine Embassy in Doha confirmed late Friday (28 Mar 2025).

In its advisory, the Embassy stated, “We are aware that several Filipino nationals have been arrested and detained for suspected unauthorized political protests in Qatar. The Embassy is in contact with local authorities to provide necessary consular assistance.”

At this time, neither the embassy nor the Department of Foreign Affairs have disclosed the exact number of Filipinos arrested or further details of the incident.

This development comes just weeks after the Philippine Embassy issued a reminder to Filipino nationals on March 13, urging them to comply with Qatari laws regarding mass protests and political expressions. While the advisory didn’t specify details, it followed the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court, prompting some overseas groups to organize rallies and even announce plans for a “zero-remittance week” in protest.

The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely.
