MANILA — Senator Win Gatchalian on Tuesday (06 August 2024) stated that services, such as RFID, should be upgraded first before implementing toll hikes on expressways.
“Importante rin na ang kapalit nitong pagsisingil sa atin [ay] magandang serbisyo. Ang hinihingi lang naman natin sa kanila ay maayos na RFID, walang traffic at hindi bumabaha,” Gatchalian said, emphasizing that some individuals have been stranded on expressways due to flooding as Typhoon Carina hit the country.
“Ayusin niyo muna… Baliktad eh, tinataasan nila bago inaayos. To be honest, ang haba ng panahon bago naaayos ‘to,” he added.
On Monday, Sen. Raffy Tulfo and Gatchalian asked the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to postpone the imposition of toll hikes, citing faulty RFID systems.
Tulfo mentioned that TRB can impose a toll increase provided that the issues with the RFID systems are resolved.
“There is no problem for you to implement an increase, but also increase the quality of service,” he said during a Senate committee hearing on public services regarding faulty RFID systems.
