MANILA – The Philippine weather bureau has warned that approximately 30 areas nationwide are expected to face dangerously high heat indexes on Friday (03 May 2024).
The heat index, which measures how hot it feels to the human body when humidity is factored in with the air temperature, is projected to reach a peak of 47°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Aparri, Cagayan, with Roxas City, Capiz, close behind at 45°C.
Areas likely to experience heat indices ranging from 42°C to 44°C include:
– Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
– Iba, Zambales
– Cuyo, Palawan
– Virac, Catanduanes
– CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur
– Dumangas, Iloilo
– Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur
– Bacnotan, La Union
– Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
– Casiguran, Aurora
– San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
– Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
– Aborlan, Palawan
– MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte
– Baler, Aurora
– Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Olongapo City
– Infanta, Quezon
– Coron, Palawan
– Daet, Camarines Norte
– Legazpi City, Albay
– Masbate City, Masbate
– Mambusao, Capiz
– Iloilo City, Iloilo
– La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental
– Catarman, Northern Samar
– Catbalogan, Western Samar
– Cotabato City, Maguindanao
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) cautioned that under such high heat index conditions, heat-related illnesses such as cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke are likely with prolonged exposure.
PAGASA reported that on Thursday, the heat index reached 48°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Aparri, Cagayan, with 21 other areas experiencing indices from 42°C to 46°C.
Meanwhile, fair weather is expected to prevail across the country, with isolated rain showers due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are also anticipated, according to PAGASA.
