MANILA — Senator Risa Hontiveros has urged the Senate to take action on the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sexual Characteristics (SOGIESC) Equality bill.
Hontiveros expressed her openness to making amendments to the proposed legislation. She emphasized the importance of presenting it again in plenary for debate and potential revisions.
“I-report out na sa plenaryo para ‘pag natapos na ang period of interpellation, pwede na kaming dumako sa period of amendments,” she said.
The SOGIESC equality bill was initially approved in December 2022 but was later referred back to the committee on rules.
Hontiveros disclosed that she has discussed the matter with Majority Leader Francis Tolentino, expressing hope that the new senate leadership will review the status of the proposal.
