MANILA — As some experts viewed it as a possible act of treason on the part of the feisty ex-president, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe on Tuesday (16 April 2024) disclosed that the House of Representatives will act on the request of Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khonghun to probe the alleged “gentleman’s agreement” between former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and China concerning the West Philippine Sea.
“In response to the request of our colleagues led by Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khonghun, the House of Representatives will consider the call to probe the supposed gentleman’s agreement when Congress resumes its regular sessions next week,” said Dalipe, chairman of the House Committee on Rules.
Congress resumes its session on April 29.
Dalipe stressed: “Protecting our national territory and marine resources are of utmost importance.”
The gentleman from the 2nd district of Zamboanga City agreed with Khonghun of Zambales’ 1st district and some House leaders’ call to scrutinize the implications of any agreements touching the Philippine sovereign rights.
“The inquiry is aimed at guaranteeing transparency and protecting the national interests,” Dalipe pointed out.
“The House of Representatives is committed to conducting a comprehensive and fair inquiry to clarify this critical national issue,” Dalipe quipped.
