TEODORO Locsin Jr., who serves as the Special Envoy to China, recently participated in a resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal.
This mission, known as the routine rotation and reprovisioning (RORE) mission, took place on October 4 aboard the BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409), one of the escort vessels accompanying two Philippine ships that delivered fresh supplies to the troops stationed at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has described Locsin’s involvement in this mission as an “official mission” with the primary objective of obtaining firsthand information about the situation in the West Philippine Sea.
According to DFA Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza, this firsthand experience will help Locsin stay informed about the issues he will discuss with China. It will also enable him to effectively communicate the concerns of the Philippines regarding the West Philippine Sea to China.
Teodoro Locsin Jr. was appointed as the Special Envoy to China for special concerns in August 2023 by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This appointment reflects the importance of diplomatic efforts and engagement with China on various matters, including those related to the West Philippine Sea.
