MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that a low-pressure area (LPA) located off the coast of Northern Samar province, combined with the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will continue to bring scattered rains to various parts of the country.
As of the latest update, the LPA was observed 440 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar. While the weather bureau notes that there is a low probability of this LPA developing into a tropical cyclone over the next few days, it is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, the Bicol region, and Quezon province.
In addition to the LPA’s impact, the southwest monsoon is currently affecting the western sections of Luzon. This weather system is anticipated to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Ilocos Region, as well as the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.
Metro Manila and the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon’s influence.
For the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms are expected, resulting in partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA has issued warnings about the potential for flash floods or landslides in areas experiencing severe heavy rains. Residents in affected regions are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Despite the rains, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected to prevail across the country, ensuring generally safe maritime conditions.
Stay updated with the latest weather information and advisories from PAGASA to ensure safety during this rainy season.
