MANILA — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that the construction progress of the Metro Manila Subway Project has reached forty percent (40%) as of January 2024.
During an inspection of the project, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, accompanied by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representative to the Philippines Takema Sakamoto, made this significant announcement.
Bautista emphasized the crucial role of JICA’s support in advancing the Metro Manila Subway Project, which is slated for completion in 2029.
Expressing gratitude, the Secretary extended appreciation to the Department of Finance (DOF) and JICA for their unwavering commitment to the project’s success, which aims to provide passengers with seamless, comfortable, and affordable travel options.
Recto echoed his support for the subway initiative, confirming that the DOF is in the final stages of negotiating the loan agreement for the third tranche of financing, anticipated to be concluded in March 2024.
