MANILA — The 2023 edition of the Miss Universe pageant marked a historic milestone as it embraced inclusivity, welcoming mothers and wives to participate for the first time.

Amidst a diverse pool of candidates, which included two mothers, two transgender women, and a plus-sized contestant, the pageant, with its 70-year legacy, witnessed groundbreaking changes.

In a momentous turn of events, 23-year-old Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua shone the brightest as she secured victory at the Miss Universe 2023 finals held in El Salvador on Sunday, November 19.

Outshining 83 contestants, Palacios not only claimed the coveted title but also made history as the first-ever representative from Nicaragua to clinch the Miss Universe crown.

The newly crowned Miss Universe follows in the footsteps of R’Bonney Gabriel from the United States.

The top three positions were rounded out by the following finalists:

1st Runner-up: Anntonia Porsild (Thailand)

2nd Runner-up: Moraya Wilson (Australia)

The country’s bet in Michelle Dee made it into the Top 10 but failed to barge into the next cut (Top 5).
