MANILA – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has summoned Special Operations Group – Strike Force head Gabriel Go for allegedly berating a police officer who was ticketed for parking on the sidewalk.
In a statement, MMDA Chair Romando Artes confirmed the incident, which was reportedly captured in a viral video, and assured the public that it would be thoroughly investigated.
“We, the officials of MMDA, consistently remind all our employees to treat everyone with respect and courtesy,” Artes said. “Even in challenging situations, we exercise maximum tolerance and compassion.”
While emphasizing that MMDA personnel are human and occasionally face the frustrations of their job, Artes stressed that aggressive behavior is not justified. “We get tired, and sometimes, our zeal in enforcing traffic laws can get the best of us,” he noted, referring to Go as a “dedicated enforcer.”
However, Artes assured that if the investigation determines Go’s actions were inappropriate, due process will be followed and the proper penalties will be imposed.
“Doing our job can be difficult, but this is not an excuse to violate policies or protocols,” he said. “Our commitment to public service must remain strong, despite the challenges.”
A show cause order has already been issued to Go, who is also expected to issue a formal apology to Police Captain Erik Felipe, the officer involved.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our constituents,” Artes added. “This will serve as a learning experience for both Mr. Go and the MMDA.”
Artes also reached out to officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD). All parties agreed that this isolated incident would not affect the longstanding cooperation and mutual respect between their organizations.
