MANILA — More than three hundred (300) female inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) received free legal and medical services from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The initiative was led by the DOJ Action Center (DOJAC) in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Rizal-San Juan-Mandaluyong (IBP-RSM) Chapter, headed by Atty. Jam Ibanez, and the Legal Aid Society of the Philippines, led by Atty. Joseph Migrino. Volunteer paralegals from the Philippine Law School (PLS) also participated.
“Real justice is never confined within the boundaries of law. Instead, it is extended with utmost compassion until it touches the hearts of people, especially those who have less in life,” said Justice Secretary Boying Remulla.
“To our fellow Filipinos undergoing reformation, please bear in mind that this government is committed to protecting and safeguarding your rights. Accept this simple token of appreciation for your perseverance. I wish all of you a Merry and meaningful Christmas,” Remulla added.
According to the DOJ, the activity is part of the Katarungan Caravan overseen by DOJAC Program Director Joan Carla Guevarra.
