MANILA – Boxer Carlo Paalam advanced in the Paris Olympics men’s 57-kilogram event, defeating Irish opponent Jude Gallagher by unanimous decision at the North Paris Arena on Wednesday (31 July 2024).
Paalam’s strong performance in the second round secured his victory, building on a narrow lead from the first round.
He dominated the second round, earning the favor of all five judges, and maintained his advantage in the third round to seal the win.
Judge Jakov Peterson awarded Paalam a full 30 points, while the other judges scored the bout 29-28 in his favor.
Next, Paalam faces Australian Charlie Senior in the quarterfinals on Saturday. A victory will guarantee Paalam at least a bronze medal, marking a significant milestone for the Philippines in the ongoing games.
