MANILA – Several regions in the Philippines will continue to experience persistent rain today (Tuesday, 10 Dec 2024) due to the combined effects of a shearline and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
The shearline, currently affecting the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon, is forecast to bring scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Bulacan, and Aurora.
Meanwhile, the ITCZ will impact the western sections of Mindanao and Palawan, resulting in scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Zamboanga del Norte and Palawan.
PAGASA has issued a warning for heavy to intense rainfall in Quezon and Camarines Norte, while Aurora, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. These conditions increase the risk of flash floods and landslides in these areas.
Monsoon Effects in Northern Luzon
Due to the northeast monsoon (Amihan), Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao will experience steady rain, while isolated light showers are likely in Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Central Luzon.
Gale Force Winds and Coastal Warnings
Strong to gale-force winds will sweep across Northern Luzon and the eastern parts of Central and Southern Luzon, making coastal waters hazardous. Moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough seas are also expected in the rest of Luzon, and the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao.
For other parts of the country, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions are anticipated.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert, monitor PAGASA updates, and take precautionary measures against potential flooding, landslides, and hazardous sea conditions.
