MANILA — Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) cannot be easily discontinued despite the upcoming 2025 elections, emphasizing that many Filipinos depend on the aid.
“It’s difficult to stop providing assistance to the people. Many rely on it,” Castro said.
She also noted concerns regarding rising hunger rates despite existing aid programs.
“According to surveys, hunger rates are reportedly increasing even though we have multiple aid initiatives. That’s why we need to examine where the problem is coming from,” she added.
“This administration cannot immediately halt AKAP, as many of our fellow citizens have come to rely on it for their daily needs. If it were suddenly stopped, there would likely be strong public outcry.”
Meanwhile, some groups have filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the implementation of AKAP.
