MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appealed to the public to dispose of their trash properly to keep the country’s drainage system free from clogging and prevent flooding.
This appeal follows the flooding in several areas of Metro Manila caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.
“We’ve had problems. I hope people learn. Don’t throw your garbage away because it’s what clogs our pumps, making them less effective,” Marcos said.
While inspecting areas in Metro Manila, Marcos noted the presence of several pumping stations.
“There are many pumping stations, but you still have to dispose of trash properly,” he said.
“At twelve o’clock noon on Wednesday, we experienced high tide. The heavy rain coincided with the high tide. So, now I clearly understand that due to indiscriminate garbage disposal, flooding occurred,” the President lamented.
