MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. lauded Filipino tennis star Alexandra Eala for her remarkable performance at the 2025 Miami Open, calling it a “historic and amazing run.”

“We congratulate Alex Eala for her sacrifices and hard work in pursuit of glory and honor. The elusive championship title is within reach soon,” Marcos said.

Eala made history by defeating world No. 2 and five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. She also secured victories over unseeded American Katie Volynets, 2017 French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko, and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

Although she fell to world No. 4 Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, the Presidential Communications Office praised Eala for showcasing the resilience of Filipinos on the global stage.

“Through sheer persistence, Alex proved that anything is possible,” the PCO said. “We, Filipinos, are like Alex—tenacious, thriving, and excelling even in the toughest conditions.”

Eala’s inspiring run cements her place among the world’s top tennis talents, setting the stage for greater triumphs ahead.
