MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called on the Philippine Army (PA) to sharpen their skills and embrace innovation as they continue safeguarding the nation.
Speaking at the Army’s 128th founding anniversary at Fort Andres Bonifacio in Taguig City, Marcos underscored the need for modernization and professional excellence to build a “peaceful, progressive, and promising” New Philippines.
“As your Commander-in-Chief, I enjoin you to stay relentless in your pursuit of excellence. Sharpen your skills, master your craft, embrace innovation,” he said, emphasizing that the Army’s strength is rooted not only in firepower but in honor, integrity, and resilience.
Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the military’s capabilities, with increased training exercises to bolster combat readiness. He also highlighted government efforts to improve troop welfare, including the mandatory annual physical examination, hospital expense reimbursements, and increased assistance for wounded personnel. Notably, the daily subsistence allowance for Armed Forces personnel has been raised from PHP150 to PHP350.
“These efforts are part of a broader vision—one where Filipinos no longer have to worry about safety, where they can pursue prosperity, and where opportunities await future generations,” he said.
The PA, founded on March 22, 1897, remains at the forefront of national defense, adapting to modern security challenges. This year’s anniversary, themed “Hukbong Katihan @128: Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas”, underscores the Army’s commitment to national security and its role in shaping a stronger nation.
