MANILA – Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See, Myla Grace Macahilig, extended her best wishes to Filipino runners preparing for the prestigious 30th Run Rome Marathon on March 16.
In an interview following a special Thanksgiving Mass on February 23, Macahilig praised the dedication of the Filipino participants, emphasizing the significance of their achievement.
“We salute the Filipino runners joining the marathon. This is a testament to both personal and community success,” she said.
With over 30,000 runners expected, including many Filipinos from Italy, Macahilig encouraged the athletes to carry their community’s hopes as they run.
“You carry the hopes of your family, community, and the Filipino people,” she added. “We wish you all the very best – run well, run safe, and remember, you’re also carrying the Philippine flag.”
The Thanksgiving Mass, organized by the Filipino community, took place at the Basilica Santa Prudenziana in Rome and was attended by Embassy officials, local Filipino organizations, and supporters.
The event was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Vhen Fernandez, Rev. Fr. Ronan Ayag CS, and Rev. Fr. Edward Caringal.
Filipino runners have spent four months preparing for the marathon, which is part of the 2025 Jubilee Year festivities. In addition to the full 42.195 km marathon, participants will compete in the Run4Rome relay and a 5K fun run.
The Philippine Embassy and local organizations such as the Pedro Calungsod Community and Pilipino Runners Roma have rallied to support the Filipino athletes as they take on this international challenge.
