MANILA — Senator Koko Pimentel is urging employers to implement flexible work arrangements to protect employees from the extreme heat.
“We must ensure that the health and safety of our workers are not compromised,” Pimentel said.
“Their well-being and health should always be a top priority.”
According to the Department of Health (DOH), extreme heat can lead to serious health issues. Heat exhaustion, for example, causes extreme weakness, excessive sweating, and dizziness.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported that the heat index continues to rise in various parts of the country, putting outdoor and field workers at higher risk.
“Many families depend on them. If they are forced to work under the harsh sun, it could jeopardize their lives and safety,” Pimentel added.
