MANILA — Senator Grace Poe is calling for the urgent passage of a transportation safety bill aimed at addressing the injuries and deaths caused by road mishaps.
“Lives are lost, and injuries are sustained daily by motorists for reasons that could have been prevented in the first place. This is simply unacceptable,” said Poe, author of Senate Bill No. 1121, also known as the proposed Philippine Transportation Safety Board (PTSB) Bill.
“Nakakabili ng bagong motorsiklo, pero hindi napapalitan ang buhay,” Poe added.
Poe emphasized that the alarming statistics of road mishaps and fatalities should urge concerned authorities to accelerate the implementation of proactive measures to reduce, if not completely eliminate, accidents.
The proposed PTSB seeks to establish a dedicated agency responsible for investigating transportation-related accidents and incidents across air, land, sea, railways, and pipeline systems.
The bill also outlines proactive solutions, including stricter inspections of public vehicles, improved driver licensing and training, and enhanced safety measures to prevent road accidents.
