MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil for another four months, Malacañang confirmed on Thursday (06 Feb 2025).
This extension, approved through a memorandum dated February 4, 2025, and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, allows Marbil to continue serving beyond his initial retirement date of February 7, 2025. At that time, he was set to reach the mandatory retirement age of 56.
The President had previously hinted at extending Marbil’s tenure to ensure smooth policing operations during the upcoming midterm elections.
Gen. Marbil, who assumed office as the 30th PNP chief on April 1, 2024, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991.
In a statement to the Philippine News Agency, Marbil expressed gratitude to President Marcos, thanking him for his continued trust and confidence in the leadership of the PNP.
“The four-month extension will provide us with the opportunity to further refine our preparations for the upcoming elections,” he said.
