MANILA – On the final day of 2024 Tuesday (31 Dec 2024), two weather systems are expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several parts of the Philippines.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in its 5 a.m. advisory on Tuesday, warned that the provinces of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte will experience moderate to heavy rainfall (50–100 mm) due to the combined effects of the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Residents in these areas have been advised to be alert for localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and near rivers.
PAGASA also noted that the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Negros Island, as well as the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Palawan.
Meanwhile, Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Quezon province and the rest of the Bicol Region will be affected by cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.
The northeast monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the Ilocos Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
